1.8.2 release pushed to production servers
Miro Community’s servers have been upgraded to use version 1.8.2 of the code, which:
Corrects a feed caching bug.
Fixes search feeds.
Syncs the front page and the popular videos page.
Speeds up feed imports.

We’ll be doing some maintenance on the servers, as well as upgrading sites to the newly released Miro Community 1.8.2. Expected downtime is approximately 2 hours.

Service outage: 2012/2/17 10am EST
Our search backend crashed, resulting in errors on some sites/pages. We’re recovering the indexes now and will respond here when service is fully restored.

Sites down temporarily
Due to server issues, all mirocommunity sites are down temporarily. We’ll let you know when service is restored.
Listing pages may be blank for a while
We have moved to a new search engine to resolve issues with sorting on listing pages and to resolve some intermittent server errors on search index access. While we reindex your site content, there will be a period when the listing pages are blank. This will resolve itself.
Feed issues resolved take 2.
Although things were resolved on the code end, it turned out there were some server configuration issues preventing feed updates. These have been corrected and the backlog of imported videos is currently running.

We are happy to announce that the issues with feed imports have been resolved; you should see any feeds that you have added recently start importing videos in the coming hours.

The bad news? We are having some issues with feeds not updating.

Intermittent outages
Following the 1.8 upgrade, we have been experiencing intermittent outages due to unexpected server loads. We are working to correct the issue.
1.8 upgrade complete
The update to 1.8 is complete! You may notice that certain video listing pages are blank; this is a temporary situation caused by some changes made in this upgrade; it will resolve itself. If you are still experiencing this issue in a day or so, let us know at support[at]mirocommunity.org.

1.8 upgrade - take two! 1/31/12 21:30 EST
Last week, the release was postponed due to a severe bug that showed up at the last minute. We were able to successfully correct that bug and a few others, and today released version 1.8 of Miro Community. We will be upgrading the hosted sites starting at 21:30 EST; again, we don’t expect any downtime, but we will update this blog if any surprises pop up.

We’re switching over to a new loadbalancer this evening. Hopefully this will occur without any downtime, but there may be a small period (less than 5 minutes) where sites are inaccessible.

We’ve had an outage with some of our sites. It affected older sites, as well as some with custom domains. All sites should be up now.

We will be performing some maintenance on the Miro Community servers starting around 10 PM Eastern. It may result in a minute of downtime.
12:05pm EDT Currently experiencing unexpected downtime on some newer sites. We are working to alleviate the problem.
12:30pm We continue to have intermittent issues with some sites, and are working to fix the problem.

2:13pm EDT - We are currently experiencing problems with some older sites being overloaded periodically. We are investigating the problem and taking steps to prevent it in the future.
We’re currently experiencing a sudden problem with some sites. We are working to determine the cause of the problem and restore sites as soon as possible.
update (6:49EDT): All sites are back up and running smoothly.

1.2 Release: Some Rolling Downtime
We will be pushing out our 1.2 release to targeted sites today. There may be limited downtime on some sites.

Some sites experiencing unplanned downtime
Starting at 9am EST this morning, sites created between June 30 and and July 15, 2010, have been experiencing unplanned downtime. We are working to fix the problem and hope to have all sites back up as soon as possible.
Update: as of 12:10pm EST, all sites should be back up and functioning normally. We are looking in to the root causes of this disruption to reduce the chances of future outages.
Some sites experienced a short downtime - all sites should now have returned to normal. We are investigating the problem.

Update on 9/13/2010 downtime
On September 13, 2010, Miro Community experienced two sets of unexpected downtime. Around 9 AM EDT, our database started throwing ‘out of space’ errors despite what seemed to be adequate remaining hard disk space. We requisitioned more space and the issue was resolved.

We’re currently experience intermittent downtime, due to an EC2/RDS delay at Amazon. You can follow their updates at http://status.aws.amazon.com/
Access to all sites has now been restored. Total downtime was approximately one hour.
The cause of the unexpected downtime was the failure of an Amazon RDS instance which hosts the Miro Community data. The database was restored from a backup; some data loss from the previous few hours may have occurred.

We will be upgrading sites to Miro Community 1.1.1, as well as upgrading the database on one of the servers.
All Miro Community sites are now active.

Miro Community 1.1 was released today, and we’ll be upgrading the servers this evening. Sites may be unavailable for some or all of this time.
We’ve finished restoring the database from last night’s backup. We are still waiting on information on what caused the failure from Amazon so we can hopefully prevent this extended downtime in the future.
